Hmm, even more to consider is the relationship that retreat creates space for advance. I appreciate the comment, which helped me expand my thinking. Now taking the relationship even more into my body I am visualizing runners at the starting line of a race: bodies are primed for advance while maintaining a temporary retreat position.

Ooh, this was thought provoking. Thanks, Renee! Often a retreat signifies a time for me to withdraw to my inner sanctum. It's a 'time out from the world' that naturally moves me into the advance mode you refer to above. It certainly does make a difference in my body.

Thanks for the shift!

What a wonderful lesson, not what I expected before I read.

As a coach it is always important to read the verbal and non-verbal communication. Then engage with it on a level it is delivered.

Thank goodness you can do this. I wish you and your mom all the best.

Terry I am so appreciative of your view, which helped me rethink how I help people experience language in their bodies. Laid back~push forward. Much gets "done" in the being of laid back. Thank you for sharing and adding to my experience.

What an interesting thought-

As I read your post, the word retreat brought a deep sigh and longing for some time to sit back and catch up.

I tend to advance, push forward and seek the next thing with a tenacity that doesn't allow the time for reflection. There is always the next thing to get done to make my plan work.

It is I alone that can give myself permission to integrate the quiet, reflective retreat with the driving advances I tend to challenge myself with.

Thank you for the opportunity to ponder this.

Renee,

Great post. I like both words equally. Retreat holds for me the meaning of leaning back, giving myself a breather inbetween advances.

Advancing is my preferred mode of movement, but sometimes I find myself advancing too far, too fast, so it's nice to retreat every once in a while to rest and rejuvenate, so I can advance again in a thoughtful and deliberate way.

All the best,
Maura

Thanks Gregg. I'm curious to learn what changed between first and second readings. If you're so inclined, please share.

I had to read your post twice to get the full impact of it. I enjoy reading what you have to say. It's too bad that more people do not understand the benefits of coaching. Keep up the good work.
